Data Journalism

Data storytelling is the conduit for modern data literacy.

In 2018, I had the pleasure of working as freelance data journalist as part of a new team belonging to the Aljazeera English Digital bureau based in Doha, Qatar.

I worked with reporters, designers, and analysts to create multimedia content on a variety of subjects, especially topics of international interest. I supported the journalists' work by researching, collecting, processing, analysing, and designing data-driven stories.

Specifically, I focused on the issue of drug trafficking in the MEA region: I conducted research using databases collected by different institutions such as the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime, the World Health Organization, and the DEA. I analyzed and compiled the data together and designed interactive visualizations to help journalists find new stories to pitch.

Additional Stories

Additionally, while at Aljazeera, I designed other concepts for data-driven stories regarding two main topics:

  • The protests that occurred in Gaza in the spring of 2018

  • The 2018 World Cup
